This morning I watched a moth nearing its final journey crawl slowly across the porch in the direction of the waning crescent moon that hung gently in the sky. A thin layer of clouds created a soft focus backdrop of sky behind the trees in the midst of fall confusion. Do we drop our leaves? Maybe not? It’s not quite cold enough. We’ll rustle our dry selves in this breeze and wait for the signal.
The moon is why moths fly towards our lights.
They evolved in a world where night was their realm and the light expanded and contracted with the lunar phases.
We used to also see at night through the phases of the moon. The vast starlit sky more or less available depending on the fullness of the moon.
Now, like the moths our universe is contracted by the helpful nighttime lights of parking lots and porches.
New Moon in Scorpio
On Friday, November 1, the Sun and Moon meet at 9° Scorpio in the 12th House. The 12th House is often called the house of self-undoing. It is associated with places of isolation and control. Hospitals. Prisons. Loneliness.
There is another way of framing this space. As one of service…what deep service is one able to provide to those who reside in places of isolation. I sense a depth of bravery in Scorpio that can move into these realms of hardship and offer care. One that is deeply spiritual, but also deeply aware of the shittier aspects of life and still capable of holding vigil.
With the ruler of Scorpio, Mars, in the last degree of Cancer, that sense of caring is emphasized and challenged. Mars is not known for bringing together but for cutting apart. So we hold vigil and find the right parts of our lives to excise in order to bring about a caring protectiveness.
Are we separate or connected?
I think of how our lights have isolated us, cut us apart, from our visual connection to the universe. Can we think beyond our porches and parking lots? Consider the fuller realm of our biosphere? The one that exists within a solar system within a galaxy among billions of other galaxies.
Would you consider yourself a galaxy among the billions of human galaxies that live on Planet Earth right now? How do we take in the breadth of experiences? How do we offer service to self and others to relieve our sense of isolation?
How does this apply to me?
This New Moon is incredibly active. It has many aspects and a lot of energy. If you would like to know how that is interacting with your own chart, let’s take a look at that together. My readings are a conversation and an invitation.
